It's about time for you to meet your chaperones! Please welcome, Allyson Monroe, Justin Holmes, Lindsey Daniels, Amanda Wilson, Hunter Amsbaugh, and Dorothy Sabo!
Allyson Monroe - Trip Leader
Originally from southern California, I've been in Summit for seven years. This is my third year as a full-time Language Arts teacher at SMS. I am so excited to be leading this fantastic group of 38 students to Europe! Traveling is (clearly) a passion of mine and I cannot think of a better way to share that passion than with our students! As I have mentioned before, I have taken a similar trip with my mom and am so looking forward to doing it again.
Justin Holmes
Hello,
My name is Justin Holmes and I am excited to experience this trip with you! I moved to Breckenridge from NY in 2000 and I taught kids snowboarding from 2000-2004 at Breckenridge. During this time, I realized that I loved teaching and working with kids. I moved to Colorado Springs in order to attend UCCS and earn my teaching degree. During my history studies, I spent a great deal of time studying the Holocaust, so I am truly thrilled to learn more! In my free time, I enjoy split boarding, snowboarding, hiking, fly fishing, and pretty much anything outside!
Lindsey Daniels
Prior to landing at Summit Middle School as a 7th grade English Language Development and Language Arts teacher, I have had the privilege to dabble in the joys of travel. I have traveled extensively throughout Latin America, mostly volunteering as a hiking guide and studying Spanish along the way, and have visited a handful of other countries as well. Having experienced the joy of interacting with different cultures while abroad, as well as in my previous work in refugee resettlement, I have developed a great joy for interacting with people different than myself and learning more about the world. I am thrilled to not only be visiting several new countries on this trip but to be delving into their rich and powerful histories alongside a wonderful group of compassionate and curious middle schoolers.
Amanda Wilson
Hi!!! My name is Amanda Wilson and I am currently enjoying teaching science to the wonderful 7th graders of SMS! When I am not at my lake house (aka SMS), I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend and friends running, snowboarding, camping, hot springing, hiking, and being in awe of the mountains. When I have the time and funds, I also love to travel. Mainly back to see my family in San Francisco, but also to new places where I gain experience with new cultures and meet kind, friendly, and generous people all over the world. I am so excited to be a chaperone because I believe deeply that traveling is the best way to gain empathy for others and to broaden one's scope of the world. Can't wait to share this experience with the whole group!
Hunter Amsbaugh
My name is Hunter Amsbaugh. I am really looking forward to joining my son, Stone, and this group of students in their exploration of history while traveling through Europe. This is a part of the world that I haven't had an opportunity to experience. I am pleased with the planned itinerary, this is a path that I probably would not have mapped out myself since these aren't the typical touristy Europe destinations. My family and I have visited Mexico and various countries in the Caribbean, and I traveled to Japan when I was in high school. I enjoy getting off the beaten path while getting a feel for the communities that we visit.
Dorothy Sabo
I am so excited to be going on the Holocaust Europe trip this summer. When I first heard about the trip I immediately thought about my daughter, Maya. I thought about her National History Day project during her seventh-grade year and how it related to the Holocaust. I thought this would be a wonderful opportunity for her and honestly, for myself as well. With that, I will explain myself in three words. I am a mother, I am a learner, and I am fun-loving. As one of your chaperones, in me, you will find all of the maternal qualities that I have (compassionate, yet firm).
Two of my main reasons for coming back to the school district after a ten-year hiatus are working with adolescents and LEARNING. I could go on and on about how much I have been researching WWII and how exciting it has been for me. I am glad I instill in my daughter the power of knowledge and dedication to her education. And finally, I am fun loving and I believe the best way to learn is through experience. And having fun and exploring while learning makes for the best and most memorable experiences anyone could have.
